THE DREAMER

MURLOUGH STAND

Walked to twelve arches, The water was low
Sure it needed some rainfall, to make the river flow

We took in some sunlight, sand was war to the touch
I ran it thru' my fingers, I wanted you so much
We made love in the Sand Dunes, hidden from view
I heard people passing, hoped they couldn't see you
The Mournes in the distance, sweeping down to the sea
I think God was watching, This day for you and me

Swans in the air now, like a chevron in flight
Made me at home with nature, with the coming of night

Day's nearly over, made our way to the pub
Buck's Head in Dundrum, had a pint and some grub

Night's comin' down now at the closing of day
But I'll always remember, that beautiful way
We walked along my Murlough Strand
Along the Sand
On a beautiful day
Hand in hand
Along Murlough Strand

DUBLIN WITHOUT YOU

I'm back in Dublin without you
And I really Don't miss you, it's true
I'm glad I'm back in town
And I'm glad your not around
I'm back in Dublin without you

Sittin' in Rathgar playing my old guitar
On a showery afternoon in June
Tryin' to write a song, tryin' to get the tune
But I'm sittin' in Dublin without you

Chorus

We partied the night away, it became a brand new day
I went walkin' to where she used to live
It made me reminisce, I remember our first kiss
But I'm sittin' in Dublin without you

You came from Dublin stock, I'm from that Belfast lot
We met in a place they call Dundalk
But now you're in Belfast town and I'm back in the Holy Ground
But I'm sittin' in Dublin without you

Chorus
I'm back in Dublin without you

I WANT TO BE A DREAMER

Lovers are just dreamers and dreamers are just in love
Stay beside me lady and I'll dream that I'm in love

When we first met, I never realised
The warmth of your smile and the depth in your eyes

The beauty right in front of me, was all for there to see
The only one who didn't see, was this fool, yes that's me

Chorus

Make me a dreamer and close your eyes real tight
Maybe, maybe this time, we'll see the morning light

Come to me little dreamer, turn out the light and take my hand
Put your lovin' arms around me and let me be your man

Chorus

I want to take you walking to my little hidden stream
Let the water's flow o'er your body, and make you want to dream

I want to be a dreamer and really fall in love
I've found this lovely person that makes me want to love

Chorus
Come dream with me my love

I'M YOUR MAN

When you first looked into my eyes
You seen right thro' my faded disguise
You asked me to dance and I said I'd rather have a drink
You came on to me and I didn't know what to think

Chorus

Now I know, now I know
That I'm your man
Right now I know that I'm your man

You captured me almost immediately
Being that type of lady
You placed your aces on the table that first night
I knew right away I wasn't gonna win this fight

Chorus

A really uptown lady, with a really really fast car
I was a bum on the dole strumming my old guitar
She led me astray like a dog on a leash
She brought out something in me that you really never can teach

Chorus

Two year later and I'm still lying in her bed
She did things to me that have nearly done in my head
I think that I love her and I know that she loves me
And that's all that really matters never mind what this world can see.

Chorus

NEEDS OF A MAN

I need air in my tyres, wind in my sails
Long winter evenings, mysterious tales

Wine in my belly, food in my gut
Soft satin laces and all that stuff

Chorus

These are the needs of a man
Not over complicated, not to plan
Love him hard, love him long
Make him feel like he belongs to you
These are the needs of a man

A man looks tough, he seems quite strong
Underneath it all you gotta help him along

Rub his bones when he gets sore, just like times before
Make him feel important you can do no more

Chorus

What you give is what you get, you get what you give
Do this you'll learn how to live

Last Chorus

These are the needs of this man
I'm not wild sophisticated, I'm just a man
Love me hard, love me good
Make me feel just the way I should with you
These are the needs of this man
These are the needs of everyman

WHITEPARK BAY

I was walking along the sea shore holding my lover's hand
Our bodies were cold and damp, from walking along the strand
I look forward to being with her, holding her oh so near
Feel the warmth of her naked, laying by the fire
We made our way to the cottage, from the wind and the sea spray
I've found my weekend haven in a place called Whitepark Bay
I love this solitary place, it makes me feel safe and secure
Standing looking over its shoreline, I'm really so glad to be here

I love to see the sun, at the end of the day
It goes down over the hilltops that over look Whitepark Bay
A fishing boat passes by between Rathlin and Ballintoy
I feel the warmth of her hand, I'm so lucky to be her man

Well the seagulls overhead are nestling in their caves
I closed my eyes and listened, to the crashing noise of the waves
We return to this place every weekend, we really enjoy our stay
We've found love, peace and contentment in our haven
Whitepark Bay

BORDERLINE

Chorus

People are East, people are West
People are North, People are South
Sure we're all people we want some peace
Never mind the borderline

Give us a future and not the past
Give us a flame that burns and make it last
You think of tomorrow and not today
Give us love and hope along the way

Dream of the rivers, running thro' our towns
Think of the waters, passing old battle grounds
Sure it's all in the past now, not part of today
Faded colours let them blow away

Chorus
My name is Billy, John McBride
I was born on the right side
Next door to Paddy O'Callaghan
Who was born of that other clan

I hear the children at school
They make loud noises and play the fool
Which one is Paddy's, which one is Bill's
Give them the joy and love, to bring out their skills

Chorus
Never mind the borderline

GOOD SONGS

Chorus
Bards leave nothing but their poems
Painters leave behind their portraits
Singers leave behind their songbirds
But good songs always linger on

We travel many roads in our lifetime
Meeting friends and lovers as we go
We hear melodies and tunes to fill our hearts with joy
I remember some good songs as a boy

I sit with my friends in a room
We're whistling and playing a merry tune
The drinkin' goes on and we'll sing another tune
Maybe this one will be a lasting one

We live on this earth for three score years and ten
Who know where it all may end
But I knew in my heart and right back from the start
A good song you'll always sing again

I'm proud to say, I've sang a few
Some good, some bad, some I never knew
Perhaps when I'm gone, a song of mine will carry on
To be a good song, like so many along the way

Chorus
Good songs always linger on

SUMMER LADIES

Summer ladies walking down the street
Summer ladies that I'd love to meet
Summer ladies make me green with envy
Summer ladies put me in a frenzy

I go to the park to get a rest
It's hot and sticky so I take of my vest
She walks by in her summer gear
I get the feelin' that I'm out A'here

I go to the beach to get a sun tan
Those summer ladies out lookin' for a man
Baywatch babes paradin' up and down
I get the feelin' I'm goin' back to town

Chorus

Summer ladies drivin' an open top car
They arrive all bouncin' at your local uptown bar
All curves and legs they go swingin' to their table
I need a drink, maybe a Carling Black Label

Summer ladies make me sweat and perspire
I'm all goose bumps and my hearts right on fire
I need a lady to make me feel cool
Instead of sittin' here like some crazy fool

Summer ladies (etc)

DADDY

Daddy died in springtime, flowers in the air
He played lots of music, But he wasn't there
The organ was loud, the choir was clear
My little girl she cried as she stood so near

Daddy was a cobbler or so they say
He worked on the buses, along his way
Time was spent in the shipyard
Worked along with the rest
Kept his family fed, he did his best

Like his daddy before him, he had fingers of green
He'd go to the garden, never again to be seen
He loved the Mournes, he loved the sea
He like to go there with mammy and me

Always playin' the piano every time when I'd call
Stopped what he was doing said, "what about you Paul
How are the kids, are they doing all right
Hope everything for you is well tonight…"

He started music in me and I carry it on
My little girl is next she's started singin' my songs
Grandma gave her his piano, it's what Daddy whished
I hope she'll plat pretty now that he's missed

I hope Sian plays pretty music now that he's missed

FIELDS OF GREEN

Chorus
Fields of Green, fields of green
Ireland and its far away fields of green

They say far off fields are green now
So I travelled many miles away
Off to the coast of Australia
On a jumbo jet one day

In Australia I panned for gold
And a whiskey man to me this story told
"Son if you're lookin' fields of green
They're in Ireland just where you've been" and he said

Chorus
So from Aussy I went to the States
On a jumbo jet once again
I landed me in Kennedy
And found myself lonely again

The larger the city
The fewer people you'll know
I decided I'd give it one more try
And off to Europe I'd go "But I still wanted"

Chorus
So I worked in Holland and France
And thinkin' to myself per chance
While in a field in Bordeaux
Right and then I decided to go "Back to my"

Chorus
Chorus

I'm back in my fields of green

HALLOWE'EN IN BELFAST

The lagan sweeps on as life about it goes on
The starlings above the Queen's Bridge they sing their song
Albert Clock sees as it ticks and tocks
A train passes by on its way to the docks
An aeroplane flies on it way to the moon
The folks on the bridge will be home quite soon
Chorus

It's Hallowe'en on a Belfast night
The starlings are over head and in full flight
They circle and circle the world down below
Till the night comes around and it's time for to go
The lagan flows on its way to the sea
The shipyard men they go home for their tea

The sun descends o'er Black Mountain ridge
Light is declining below our Queen's Bridge
Goliath and Samson both rest for a while
They've worked really hard and done it in style
The birds are coming down and below
To join the Lagan and its constant flow

The waterfront now stands by the Lagan
It sits like a space ship all alone in the night
A silhouette gleams on the water
The birds fly around and around
They hear the musical chorus
City lights are lit over Belfast City

Chorus
The shipyard men, they're at home havin' tea.

BEST PARTIES

Chorus
All the best parties are in the house next door
I've got my own space, sleepin' on their floor
Terry's bringin' Susan and Susan's bringin' Joe
Joey's bringin' Linda and Linda doesn't want to go

We're all going to a party and everybody's there
All of my best acquaintances wearin' their underwear
There's a mirror in their toilet that stands above the loo
I love to stare at it and wonder what to do

Sometimes I take my guitar and sit and sing some songs
All the local crumpet they love to sing along
There's always whiskey, beer, and some gin
And after I'm done there I'm not sure where I've been

Chorus
I strut in like a peacock and stand and do my stuff
All the party ladies now will they call my bluff
Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll have myself some fun
I'll end up in the bedroom with a girl dressed like a nun

Chorus
Linda doesn't want to go.

I'VE FOUND LOVE

I've longed for love every step of the way
Sometimes it came in, other times it drifted away
I was always here but it never really was
We all long for love sometime when it comes around

Chorus
Well I found love and she found me
Is this really true or just my fantasy
Just a new beginning, a new purpose in my life
Could you be the woman to leave me home tonight?

I'm looking for happiness, oh God can I fin it in me
If you look behind my eyes and see what you might see
If you're passin' my way drop in and give me a call
Searchin' for that special one, maybe I'll just sing along

If you don't wanna dream, they can never come true
You don't wanna love, she can never find you
If she's broken your heart and it's busted all apart
You'll find that person, to let you make a new start

Chorus
You're like the sun and the stars up above
You're like the moon and you remind me of love
You're like the sea, so deep and blue
You're the reason why you're just you.
