OLD LOVERS

UNDECIDED
(The story of a man's uncertain love and future with his woman)

All I've gotta give is everything I've got
Everything you take is everything I'll give
If I give you this heart would you give me your hand
I'd be so close beside you your lovin' man

Chorus
So undecided are you the promised land
Are you the woman to fulfil my well laid plans?
The answer to this question I really don't know
That why I'm so undecided over you

This heart's been broken so many times
I'm not going back to those unwritten lines
The chords they are written your story is new
To help me be less undecided over you.

Chorus
What do you say to this undecided man?
When you have him here wrapped right in you're hand
Now don't be bashful go on & be bold
And lets be undecided when we're old

Last chorus
Because I'm so undecided
So undecided, so undecided over you.

OLD LOVERS
(Just true love found second time around.)

Old lovers come around
Doin' it all a second time
Seems like just a merry go round
You're happening again.

Chorus
Cause I am to you, what you are to me
We are together what we want to be
When we're apart you're deep in my heart
A part of you is born in me.

The roads of life along the way
The paths are many that come each day
Manys a crossroads and manys a bend
Come our way before the end.

Chorus
I want to be with you all the days of my life,
I suppose what I'm askin' will you be my wife,
I never want to see the sun go down,
When you're not here and close around.

Old lovers come around,
Doin' it all a second time,
Seems like just a merry go round,
You're happening again.

Chorus
Old lovers come around,
Doin' it all a final time,
Think I've jumped my merry go round,
You've happened again.

ON THE 12th (Calypso)
(A challenge from my kids to write a song about the 12th in 20 minutes. I lost the bet by 10 minutes and bought the tea. The song is just what we did on the 12th July 1999 and only that)

On the 12th, the 12 of July (Twice)
Marching days come round again
Found myself on a leafy lane
Not the road to Belfast town

Found the sand on Murlough Strand
The kids and I walked hand in hand
Bathed our bodies in the sea

Ballykillner seals bathing in the sun
Watched all the fishes go on the run
Seen the tide go in and out

Played in sand dunes long and tall
Threw red and blue and yellow ball
Watched the army put out a gorse fire

Back to Dundrum bought some food
Sat on the harbour it tasted so good
Watched the boats sail up and down

Heard on the radio back in Belfast town
Two sets of people milling all around
Orange and green and a river running through
Just our 12th, the 12th of July

RIGHT OUT LOUD
(The story of a man who can't admit to loving someone and giving away his inner self.)

Chorus
I'm proud to say I love you right out loud,
I want you to know you are the one,
Now it's said & done I'm so overcome,
I'm proud to say I love you & I do.

I thought my time was done & I was through
I thought I'd lost my chance of lovin' you,
Now you've come around & look just what I've found,
A part of you that says you love me too.

Your head's on the pillow by my side,
I never thought this day it would arrive,
Is this just a dream, did you really stay,
And tell me that you loved me yesterday.

Chorus
You've just woken up & I see you smile,
I haven't known this feel'in for such a while,
I know it's not a dream, its real love I feel,
The kind of love I never wanna lose.

Chorus
I'm proud to say out loud that I love you

EDGE OF IRELAND
(Just what I saw before me on the West Coast of Mayo at Doohuma.)

Chorus
At the edge of Ireland, feel that Atlantic breeze,
Far over this ocean America breathes.

I'm over here in Mayo it's where I wanna be,
It's peaceful & tranquil, down here by the sea.

Lookin' out over Achill & it's Slievemore Hill,
She casts a dark shadow but I love her still.

Well here at Doohuma a cormorant flies,
She's skirting the wave tops against September skies.

Chorus
Rainbow over Killala, it lies oe'r the land,
Sure there's gold here for all now, in the palm of your hand.
Walked along the edge, felt the sea in my toes,
Take this memory with me wherever I goes.

Chorus
Far over this ocean America breathes,
Far over this ocean, from the edge,
From the edge of Ireland.

VODAPHONE BLUES
(Portable phones really cheese me off (no slight against Vodafone intended.) this is the refined version as the rest is too rude to print.) joke song, no offence meant, don't sue me, I've no money.

I bought me a portable talkin' machine
You strap it to your belt and you strut so mean

Chorus
I got the vodaphone blues what do you think of that

Just the other day you gave me a call
She said we're thro - its all over Paul

Chorus
I called you up but you're not in
You're out on the town committing some sin

Chorus (vodaphone blues etc)
A bill came thro' my door today
You've been using my phone in that sneaky way

Chorus
In my back yard there's a vodaphone tower
I'm gonna' go out there and unplug the power

Chorus
I got this awful pain in my head
This vodaphone give me cancer, well hey I'm dead

Drivin' my car the telephone goes
Hit a Mercedes I hope nobody knows

The moral of this story I will tell
Never buy a vodaphone it'll send you to hell

Chorus
I got rid of my vodaphone blues today
I threw it in Bangor Bay but it rang anyway

Chorus. What you think of that? (Twice)

STAR IN MY WINDOW
(A window is like a TV screen, I wrote this after seeing the North Star sitting all alone in the sky. Thanks Angela.)

There's a star in my window tonight,
It sits alone with the coming of night,
The light from that star, can be seen from afar,
Is my star in your sky tonight?

A job took you away pulled us apart,
With the passing of time you lost you heart,
I look out my window, at this star so bright,
It feels like my heart, she's lonely tonight.
The North Star it points the way,
It's hopeless like my feelings are this day
You've gone away and left me alone,
The light from that star is still in my home.

A flickering candle burns in my home,
I'm playin' my guitar so alone,
My candle burns low it's close to midnight,
That far away star it doesn't shine so bright.

Well I here you're in some foreign land,
And I suppose you have yourself some brand new plan
Does she love you too, just like I do?
Is she the star in your eyes?
So there's a starlight, a star so bright,
It's the first star that I'll see this night,
I wish I may and I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish, tonight
You are the star in my window tonight.

VIDEO STAR
(My car was stolen in Belfast beside a well-known shopping centre and the thief was captured on video. At least I got a song.)

Chorus
My car's been stolen today,
Some nice fella' just took it away,
Little did he know he was on show?
He was a video star.

The cops rang me in the bar,
They said sir you've just lost your car,
I sat down to think and ordered a drink,
A drink to the video star.

Underpants and socks in the rear,
I'd just bought myself some new gear,
No socks for my shoes, I've got y-front blues,
Thanks to the video star.

Chorus
Following day I seen the remains,
Not one window, no not one pane,
The fronts all pushed in; it sure is a sin,
The video star strikes again.

He was a video star,
That god shite that took my car,
I'm really pleased to say that I had to pay,
Good luck to the video star.

Chorus
The police are still lookin' him
He goes by a pseudonym of Jim,
They say from the rear he's like Richard Gere
And he's a video star.

Chorus
Little did he know that he was on show?
He was a video star

SEPTEMBER RAIN
(This came about the day after visiting Sean Donnelly's house and based on the age-old theme of you best friend stealing your girl.)

Chorus
Summer was all we had,
Until the autumn came,
And that friend of mine took you away,
And left me September Rain.

We first met in May,
When Spring was in the air,
Sure I loved you straight away that day,
When I saw you standing there.

So June and July,
Oh how the time did fly,
We played the games that lovers play,
In the good old bye and bye.

August came and went,
Oh the time was easy spent,
But I ner'e did see that glint in your eye
For another passing by.

September sun is here,
And you're still with me near,
But come the day you'll bring me pain
With that chilly September rain.
Chorus

SUNDAY MORNIN' LOVERS
(An ideal Sunday morning with the one you love)

Saturday night we got a little tight
Taxi home at two am
A time for just us there's no need to fuss
You & I we are just one

Chorus
Sunday mornin' lovers take time to discover
A little of you and a little of me

The people next door made love at four
Same idea same song
No work today just time to play
Here on our own & no phone

Chorus
I'll run you a bath there's foam on the top
You're favourite perfume it floats in the air
Sun thro the curtain now I'm so certain
Today your mine & I'm yours

Breakfast on a tray this brand new day
Time for some toast yeah & a snooze

Its time to rise now but just in a while
You give me that look that smile

Chorus
Sunday mornin' lovers, Sunday morning love (Twice)
